Message from our General Superintendent Doug Clay. As many states begin loosening restrictions on church services and gatherings, this could be a time of confusion just as much as celebration. As ministers and representatives of Christ, we should be known for a Christ-honoring posture through trying times. I’ve seen that response throughout this Fellowship during this time, and that’s something for which I’m incredibly grateful. I have some personal thoughts on what a Christ-honoring perspective may look like in this transitional phase of the pandemic where churches are deemed essential, but large gatherings are still discouraged in most areas. 1. A Perspective of Gratitude. Government leaders from both sides of the aisle have made determinations that churches are essential. Let’s be grateful for this recognition. It’s undeniable that churches make an outsized contribution to the good of the communities we serve. Still, deeming churches as essential in this politically-charged season is not an easy decision. In the context of government, Paul reminds us in Romans 13:7, “Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.” Let’s show appropriate respect and honor to those who have made these determinations-even if you disagree with their politics. 2. A Perspective of Wisdom. Please closely follow and adhere to federal and state guidelines when providing worship services in person. When leaders are basing decisions on public safety, we should take those recommendations seriously. How those decisions play out in our church communities will take wisdom. That kind of wisdom is described for us in James 3:17, “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” 3. A Perspective of Humility. The combination of a 24-hour news cycle and social media banter can create a host of armchair quarterbacks. Let’s demonstrate humility instead of arrogance and further model Christ through the decisions we make. Don’t do anything that would draw unnecessary attention to you or the church that would jeopardize our essential status. We’re reminded in Proverbs 11:2, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” 4. A Perspective of Dependence on the Spirit. Continue to allow the Holy Spirit to help you exercise innovation and creativity. The same Spirit that hovered over “the waters” at the onset of Creation, is the same Spirit that is hovering over you now; He can provide you with creative solutions to reach your community for Christ. As Jesus promised to His disciples, the Holy Spirit is able to guide us and instruct us in the face of any challenge. John 14:26, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” I am grateful for the leadership that you are providing to the district and network that God has called you to serve. Beloved TLHD Ministers, I Pray you find yourself well and in good health. Psalms 91:3-5 The Message That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps, shields you from deadly hazards. His huge outstretched arms protect you— under them you’re perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm. Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night, not flying arrows in the day, Not disease that prowls through the darkness, not disaster that erupts at high noon. Due to the current situation concerning the COVID-19 virus that has affected thousands of people and the warnings of the Health Department, the World Health Organization, and the Center of Disease Control, the TLHD Presbytery met in an extraordinary session via video/teleconference on March 17. After much discussion and considering the situation that we are all confronting with the COVID-19, considering the recommendations of our General Superintendent and legal counsel of the General Council and do to some district events already being canceled because of the ordinances and recommendations put in place by our national, state and local authorities, the following decisions were taken and approved by the TLHD General Presbytery:
1. Liability Due to the President of the United States together with the recommendations of the Health Department, the Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization do not have gatherings have more than 10 people in the governor of Texas that has declared state of disaster due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are asking that all services be canceled and that we submit the recommendations given by the authorities. If a person goes to the service and contracts the virus, the church can be liable and responsible and may be sued for not submitting to the recommendations given by the authorities. Be creative and use the social media outlets such as FaceBook Live, Live stream, etc. Help those who have no knowledge on how to do this.
2. District Events and Activities It was approved to cancel all district events and activities scheduled on our district calendar till May due to the warnings and recommendations implemented by our national, state and local authorities.
3. Financial Help For Pastors In light of this crisis affecting the income of the church and pastor, especially the smaller churches, this crisis can also affect the pastor’s salary. It was approved to help the pastors affected by this with an offering from benevolence. It is understood that the tithes sent to the district office maybe less, due to the ministers finances being affected by this crisis. We encourage each presbyter be monitor the well being of the ministers of the section.
4. District Council It was approved to postpone the district council till September or November depending on the recommendations given by the authorities. If it is possible we will try to have the district council in conjunction with the date before or during the women's convention or the youth convention. The well-being, health and safety is our concern and priority for you, your family and congregation! Should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us.

Estimados Ministros del TLHD, Espero que se encuentren bien y en salud. Si alguna persona va a un servicio y contrae el virus, la iglesia puede ser responsable y hasta puede ser demandada legalmente por no someterse a las recomendaciones de las autoridades. Sean creativos y usen los medios de las redes sociales tales como FaceBook Live, Live stream, etc. Ayuden a los que no tienen conocimiento de como hacer esto.
2. Actividades y Eventos Distritales Se aprobó cancelar todos los evento y actividades en el calendario del Distrito hasta Mayo dado a los avisos y recomendaciones implementados por las autoridades nacionales, estatales y locales.
3. Ayuda Para los Pastores En vista que esta crisis puede afectar los ingresos de la iglesia y un pastor, especialmente de iglesias pequeñas, puede ser afectado en cuanto a su sueldo. Se aprobó ayudar a los pastores afectados con una ofrenda de Benevolencia. Se entiende que los diezmos enviados al distrito pueden ser menos dado a que las finanzas del ministro puede ser afectado por esta crisis. Se anima que los Presbíteros estén al pendiente de sus pastores en la sección.
4. El Concilio de Distrito Se aprobó posponer el Concilio de Distrito hasta Septiembre o Noviembre dependiendo de las recomendaciones de las autoridades. Si es posible, trataremos de tenerlo en conjunto con las fechas antes o durante la Convención de Hermanas o la convención de jóvenes.
